Green Hydrogen And Grid-Scale Storage
India has set an ambitious goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. As the nation’s energy demand surges, reliance on imported fossil fuels in major sectors like mobility and industry necessitates a shift towards renewable energy. Green hydrogen, produced using renewable sources, emerges as a key player in this transition. It leverages India’s abundant renewable resources, serving as both fuel and industrial feedstock, and supports a low-carbon, self-reliant economy.
Recent advancements and cost reductions in renewable energy and electrolysers, along with aggressive national strategies, are making green hydrogen increasingly cost-competitive. India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to produce at least 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. This aligns with global trends, which target over 200 GW of electrolyser capacity by the same year.
Grid-scale storage systems are crucial for managing the intermittency of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. These systems ensure a stable and reliable supply by storing excess energy and releasing it during periods of low production. Green hydrogen and grid-scale storage support decarbonisation, increase energy independence, and promote renewable energy integration, paving the way for a sustainable future. To foster India’s ambitious goal, we are working on developing high-current, multiphase converters for hydrogen electrolysers.
